5 Reasons Why You Can't Grow A Beard
Are you ever walking down the street and BOOM!
Out of nowhere, you see a man walk out of a store with a beard half the size of his body.
I'm sure as you stood there in awe examining his triumphant face rug, a part of you felt jealous.
We’ve all been there - jealous of another man's glorious beard, and if you’re anything like I used to be, jealous of just anyone who could grow facial hair.
I used to wonder “hey why are these men capable of growing massive beards, whereas I can barely grow a visible mustache.”
It wasn’t until later in life that I realized there are actual reasons as to why certain men cannot grow beards.
Whether it’s your age or just plain old genetics, there is a reason why the beard is not coming in the way you want it to.
In this article, I will discuss the five main reasons (in no particular order) why you cannot grow a beard.
If you are wondering “why can’t I grow a beard” I highly recommend checking out the five reasons below.
Reason 1: Age
Men often grow facial hair up until age 30.
Your early to mid-twenties are widely accepted as the period where your beard begins to thicken and fill out.
If you are concerned about the progress of your facial hair, first consider your age - it could be that you are just too young to grow the beard of your dreams.
Reason 2: Genetics
If you come from a long line of bearded men, and your grandpa's beard was bigger than you as a child, you more than likely have the genetics necessary to grow a beard.
The thickness and scale of your beard are largely decided by genetics.
So if you’re wondering why your beard is not growing in, pull up some pictures of your past relatives to see whether or not they were sporting beards - if they weren’t, there’s a good chance the reason you can’t grow a beard is because of your genetics.
Reason 3: Ethnicity
Believe it or not, your race can actually impact your ability to grow a beard.
It is believed that people from Mediterranean countries tend to have the ability to grow thick and sizable beards compared to other regions of the world.
For instance, Chinese men usually grow less facial hair than White/Caucasian men.
Chinese men tend to grow facial hair around the lips and the chin, whereas white men tend to grow more hair on the cheeks, neck, and chin - usually in a denser volume.
Reason 4: Alopecia Areata
I'm sure you're wondering what in the world Alopecia areata is.
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes your body to attack its hair follicles.
This condition can lead to your beard and head hair to fall out in patches.
Reason 5: Low Testosterone Levels
In a lot of cases, low testosterone may be the reason you can’t grow facial hair.
Usually, people with low testosterone levels have almost zero facial hair.
For testosterone to affect your facial hair growth, however, your testosterone levels have to be clinically low.
Conclusion
And there you have it - if you can’t grow facial hair or if you are wondering “why can’t I grow a beard” the things I have listed above are more than likely the reason.
This is not to say that if you are experiencing one of the reasons above that it will be impossible to grow a beard - all good things do come with time.
